I did it! Somehow I managed to pull through and finish with a word count of 50,006 a few minutes before midnight. I wrote over ten thousand words on the 30th to get my win. Today I’m more than a little bit tired.
The best part though is that I want to keep writing. I’m taking a break for a while today to give my hands and wrists a chance to recover, but I’m itching to get back to the story.
I was a rebel this year and continued working on my ongoing novel for this blog, The Dreams. At the start of the month I had 24,329 words already written for the novel. I ended the month with a total of 74,335 words in that project. Now I have up through Chapter Sixteen fully drafted and scenes and fragments from nine more chapters, and I still have no end of this story in sight.
The best part of it all is how excited I am to be writing The Dreams again. I was struggling to get through certain scenes in October and my enthusiasm was waning, but NaNoWriMo really saved me from getting hung up on the tough parts. I needed to get the word count so I just kept on writing. I learned so much about my characters in the process.
Sometime soon I’m going to go back and start looking over the chapters I wrote. I know they will need some cleaning up, and I will probably shorten some of the scenes that simply went on and on while I delved into character development. I still expect I will be posting what I consider draft 1.5 here for everyone to read. Further revisions won’t be coming until I have reached “The End”.
I’m hoping to get at least two chapters posted a month for the foreseeable future. I’ve been discussing my posting schedule with my current Patron and so far the pay per chapter routine is still a-okay. If I’m able to keep up posting multiple chapters per month for more than a month or two I might see about switching to a per month plan. If you’d like to show your support for my writing endeavors please check out my Patreon and consider pledging a dollar. There are perks for each pledge level and every one of them comes with my eternal gratitude.
I hope everyone who tried NaNoWriMo this year had a great experience. Win or lose you’ve got more words than you had at the start of November. Let’s try to keep writing the rest of the year too!
CONGRATS!!! 😀
