I certainly hope so!
2015 was a year full of changes.
I first started this blog in January, but did not start to really use it until August.
I started posting The Dreams this year. Now I’ve reached the point of posting a chapter every week. I can still hardly believe it!
I started the year with a job and dreams of more time to write. Here at the end of the year I’ve been laid off and I dream of paying my bills by writing (maybe not soon, but some day).
Most of the year I could not get myself to write with any consistency. Then I started using this blog to make myself more accountable to my writing. Now I seem to be doing a pretty good job of writing every day.
I lost both Camp NaNoWriMo sessions this year, but I managed to win NaNoWriMo with a huge word count rally in the final days. Now I know I can do it, but hope I won’t have to do it again.
In terms of writing 2015 has only gotten better as the year progressed. Unfortunately the future has only become more uncertain.
All of the uncertainty in my life these days reminds me to be sure only to give myself goals for 2016 that I can actually control. There are plenty of things I would love to see happen next year, but I won’t be able to make them happen on my own so I won’t include those.
My 2016 Goals
- Write every day
- Post a chapter every week
- Finish The Dreams
- Start writing another novel
- Win CampNaNoWriMo at least once
- Win NaNoWriMo
Six goals seems like a completely doable number for the year. Have I missed any obvious ones? What are your goals for the new year?
Those seem like good goals – they’re simple and measurable. I’ve ended up with about a dozen resolutions, though only a few of those are related to writing (complete drafts of the second and third stories in my planned trilogy, start entering short story competitions again). Otherwise there’s a few random things like travelling somewhere new, and getting through a list of classic films that I’ve never watched.

Simple and measurable is exactly what I was going for with my goals. I have a tendency to worry about things that aren’t entirely in my control.
Classic films are great. That should be a fun goal for the new year.

I think goal #1 is the most important. No matter how much you write per day, you’re still moving along. Happy New Year!

Those are some great goals and it looks like you’re already on your way to fulfilling them! I’d love to write more this year too and I think using a blog to be more accountable for that writing is a great idea 🙂

Those are great goals! I really want to try and write more this year, too. Last year, NaNo really boosted me to write, and I don’t want to stop…but since I finished my first draft, I haven’t been able to pick it up at all this January. I hope I will find time and motivation. Good luck!! 😀

Thanks!
Sometimes drafts need a nice, long cool down period. I’m sure you’ll get back to it when enough time has passed.
