January 25

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 92,611
  • Today’s word count: 809
  • Thoughts: I didn’t think I’d write this much when I started for the day, but once I started it was easy. I love days like this.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Editing day. I’m not sure what to expect with this chapter.

January 26

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 92,665
  • Today’s word count: 54
  • Thoughts: Editing. It’s going pretty well, but almost every sentence needs to be tweaked. I’m not complaining. I’m glad I got the scene written, but now I need to rewrite all of it.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More editing. I’m hoping the whole chapter won’t be this choppy.

January 27

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 92,724
  • Today’s word count: 59
  • Thoughts: I did enough edited to post a chapter teaser on my Patreon. That’s something at least.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Finish editing! Maybe get back to writing!

January 28

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 92,747
  • Today’s word count: 23
  • Thoughts: I feel like I worked on The Dreams for ages today, but I only made a bit of progress on editing. I was being really hard on myself and rewriting almost every sentence. I made myself walk away from it for a while and now I think i Have a better perspective.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Try not to get too caught up making everything perfect. Make it good so everything around it can be good too.

January 29

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 92,766
  • Today’s word count: 19
  • Thoughts: I spent the day doing even more edits on Chapter Twelve. I felt like it needed a lot more work before I could comfortably share it.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Post Chapter Twelve and try to get back to writing again.

January 30

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 92,784
  • Today’s word count: 18
  • Thoughts: Not a good writing day at all, but the problem has nothing to do with writing itself. I haven’t been getting enough sleep and it finally caught up with me.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Sleep! Then write.

January 31

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 92,991
  • Today’s word count: 207
  • Thoughts: I’m amazed I wrote at all. I’ve had a migraine since Saturday night and nothing I do makes it go away entirely. My only regret is not writing 9 more words so I could’ve ended the week on a nice, even number.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Sleep, sleep, sleep, hopefully feel better and then write.

I am disappointed with my writing progress for the weekend in particular. I had hoped to write at least 1,000 words both days, but it’s just not possible to plan ahead for health problems. Now I’m just hoping I feel better soon so I can dive back in to writing and make up for lost time.

  1. Don’t be disappointed! You managed to do a little every day, not everyone manages that, and I know how long the edit can take! Don’t be too harsh on yourself, the important thing is that you’re doing it at all. Even slow progress is progress!

  2. I think it’s frustrating when you don’t write as much as you had intended. However, there are days when you manage to shape a novel without actually writing much. I had one of those last week and, although I didn’t write much, I felt satisfied at the end of the day because I had a whole new sense of direction. Good luck with it Bridgett. You’ve done well to have achieved in excess of 90,000 words. 🙂

  3. Sorry about the migraine, Bridgett. 😦 Hope you feel better! But looks like you are still managing to get a lot done, even if it’s not as much as you hoped. Any progress is still progress! And I will have to check out some of the chapters you’ve been posting. 🙂

    • Thanks.

I have to keep telling myself that any progress is good. I tend to focus on what I think I should have accomplished rather than what I actually did accomplish. It’s something I really need to work on.

  4. Hope you feel better Bridgett. And don’t mind too much about your progress. You actually did a lot just by writing everyday. Just enjoy your rest, let your novel stew in your subconscious and come back to it with renewed vigor and inspiration.

  5. don’t put too much pressure on yourself, you’re obviously an accomplished writer, so writing when you’re more relaxed will be best for you! Get well soon x

      • It’s difficult and I struggle with it too. Criticism can be constructive, but remember to still make your art form enjoyable 🙂 If it makes you feel better, I haven’t written my book for about a week and I’m not stressed. I know everyone’s situations are different, but I think by putting little pressure on myself I set realistic goals and actually write more in the longterm.
