CampNaNoWriMo Week 4 Recap

How are there only two days left in the month! How did that happen?

With 28 days of the month behind me I feel like I didn’t try hard enough to write this month. I still wrote more this month than any other month so far this year, so I guess it’s not so bad.

I’m trying to make a dash to the finish line, but I’m not at all convinced I will be able to win. Progress is progress though! I have more words than I did at the beginning of the month.

Right now my total word count is 17,410. CampNaNoWriMo is predicting I will reach my word count target on June 20. I need to write 10,864 words per day to finish on time. That’s a lot!

I should really get back to writing. I would like to write a couple thousand more words tonight.

Once the month is over I’ll be back to recap the last two days of the month. I’ll be doing a ton of writing between now and then. Hopefully I will get to report a victory.

How is CampNaNoWriMo going for you? Have you crossed the finish line? Are you like me and still struggling to get caught up before Saturday night?

This was another tough chapter to get through. I think the idea of this chapter was actually harder than actually working on it. Once I got started I revised it pretty easily, but I really, really did not want to get started. Please let me know about any problems or errors I might have missed in this chapter!

This chapter is made possible by my fantastic supporters. Thank you so much for believing in me!

CampNaNoWriMo Week 3 Recap

This week has tried to kick my butt.

At this point I’m trying to keep up my habit of writing every day, even if some of the days I only write a line or two. Even so my goal of finishing the first draft of The Dreams this month is seeming less and less likely.

I’m starting to think that CampNaNoWriMo is just curse for me. I can win NaNoWriMo at least 50% of the time, but I haven’t won CampNaNoWriMo even once.

That means I’m even more determined not to give up! Even if I can’t win this time I can at least try to get closer to my goal this time than I have before.

There are so many great scenes I’m looking forward to writing. As long as I keep going I can write all of them this month. Reaching 50,000 words this month would be great, but I would much rather just get all of my ideas out of my head once and for all.

As of right now I have 40,626 words to write in nine days to finish on time. That’s just over 4,000 per day. My current average for the month is 446 words per day. I really need to pull that average because CampNaNoWriMo says I’m going to finish on July 22 at this rate. Every time I update my word count that date will get closer and closer to April 30.

How’s your writing going? Are you head or behind on your word count? Have you won already? Let me know!

Writing Progress April 11 – 17, 2016

Another week of CampNaNoWriMo! I wrote every day last week. Let’s see if I can do it again!

April 11

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 99,291
  • Monthly word count: 6,401
  • Today’s word count: 420
  • Thoughts: It’s not exactly the sort of day I was hoping for writing-wise, but I’ve had far worse.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Hopefully a lot more writing. I also would love to work on revising the next chapter a bit.

April 12

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 100,004
  • Monthly word count: 7,114
  • Today’s word count: 713
  • Thoughts: I had one good writing session and couldn’t get back into the groove to write more later. I’m not too disappointed though because I managed to hit 100,000 words, and that is just amazing.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Hopefully some revising. I need a good revising day.

April 13

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 100,156
  • Monthly word count: 7,226
  • Today’s word count: 152
  • Thoughts: I don’t know why I’m having so much trouble writing. I’m just feeling unmotivated, but I haven’t figured out the reason behind it.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully more writing. I really need to get to revising the next chapter as well.

April 14

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 100,167
  • Monthly word count: 7,240
  • Today’s word count: 11
  • Thoughts: I made a good deal of revision progress, but that really cut into the time and energy I had for writing. I had to go out and do things in the middle of my writing time so that messed things up a bit too.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More of the same, but better.

April 15

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 100,454
  • Monthly word count: 7,527
  • Today’s word count: 287
  • Thoughts: I don’t know why I’m having such a hard time making words happen. I’m pretty disappointed with myself right now.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Write. Get the next chapter posted.

April 16

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 100,657
  • Monthly word count: 7,730
  • Today’s word count: 203
  • Thoughts: I didn’t accomplish any of the things I wanted to do today.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Get stuff done.

April 17

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 100,676
  • Monthly word count: 7,750
  • Today’s word count: 19
  • Thoughts: Not the sort of day I was hoping to have, but I did work on revisions some more. I just need to get back into the mindset for writing again.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing, please. I’m not going to allow myself to go to bed another day with a pitifully low word count.

I’m hoping this is just a week 3 slump of sorts and I will be back to writing with even more enthusiasm than before soon. CampNaNoWriMo makes me want to write every day, but I’m starting to think I need a day off every week.

Do you write every day? Or do you try to take a day off every week?

CampNaNoWriMo Week 2 Recap

Tomorrow will be the halfway point for the month. It’s hard to believe the month is halfway over.

How’s my writing for Camp?

Well, I’m writing every day. That’s always a good sign. My current word count is less of a good sign. I left my goal for the month at 50,000 words because I thought it would take that or a bit more to finish the first draft of The Dreams. As of this morning my word count is 7,226. That’s quite a bit below my target word count of 23,333.

I’m not giving up just yet. I always fall behind during NaNoWriMo. Sometimes I can catch up. Sometimes I can’t. I don’t think I’m so far behind just yet that I can’t catch up again.

Usually the pressure of the deadline motivates me during the last few days of the month. Then I manage to write about a third of the month’s words in the last two days. I have a feeling once I am a bit closer to the end of the story I will have a rallying burst of motivation.

One of these times I’m actually going to write steadily and stay on track or almost on track all month. Maybe that is something I can aspire to during July’s Camp session. It certainly isn’t happening this month!

How is CampNaNoWriMo going for you? Are you ahead of your target or behind?

Writing Progress April 4 – 10, 2016

Since I’m trying to keep up with my writing progress updates during CampNaNoWriMo I thought it might be nice to keep track of my word count for the month in addition to my project total and my daily word count. Let me know if you think this is an improvement or if I should scrap the idea!

April 4

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 95,980
  • Monthly word count: 3,081
  • Today’s word count: 1,670
  • Thoughts: Today was a fantastic writing day! I want to keep up the momentum and enthusiasm for the rest of the month. Total writing high!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Keep riding the writing train!

April 5

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 96,747
  • Monthly word count: 3,848
  • Today’s word count: 767
  • Thoughts: I was hoping for another day like yesterday, but that didn’t happen. I’m still very happy with the words I did get written.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Possibly try to figure out how to continue writing and tracking my word count for CampNaNoWriMo while editing the next chapter.

April 6

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 96,870
  • Monthly word count: 3,971
  • Today’s word count: 123
  • Thoughts: Tiny word count, but big progress! I edited more than half of the next chapter!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Write more, and finished editing the next chapter.

April 7

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 97,610
  • Monthly word count: 4716
  • Today’s word count: 740
  • Thoughts: I wrote and edited today. I’m thrilled with how much progress I made with the novel so far this week.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Finish the chapter revision and more writing.

April 8

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 98,029
  • Monthly word count: 5,139
  • Today’s word count: 419
  • Thoughts: I finished editing the next chapter and  wrote too. That’s a good writing day in my book.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. No editing.

April 9

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 98,746
  • Monthly word count: 5,856
  • Today’s word count: 717
  • Thoughts: Saturdays are pretty much the worst day of the week for me lately. It’s the day everything seems to get derailed. It was such a chore to get myself into the writing mindset.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Better writing!

April 10

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 98,871
  • Monthly word count: 5,981
  • Today’s word count: 125
  • Thoughts: Writing was like pulling teeth today. I’m not sure what happened exactly, but I’m not thrilled.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I hope that there’s more writing happening, but we’ll see what the day brings.

Something really cool happened this week. I was interviewed! Check it out here. It was my first ever interview!

The Dreams: Chapter Eighteen

With this chapter I tried to be a little less picky. Lately I’ve spent way too much time making everything about a scene perfect before I post it here. I have nothing against perfection, but this is only a second draft. I’ll be revising this entire novel at least one more time so aiming for perfection when it will be rewritten is just silly.

I hope the chapter won’t be too bad. If the quality suffers too much I might need to find something more of a middle ground between these sort of revisions and the attempts at perfection I aimed for lately.

This chapter is made possible by my fantastic supporters. Thank you so much for believing in me!

CampNaNoWriMo Week 1 Recap

I’m writing this part way through the seventh day of CampNaNoWriMo. I can see the end of the first week from here, so I can do a recap of the week, right? This hasn’t been the best or the worst start to a NaNoWriMo event I’ve experienced. I’m behind, but I’m pretty much always behind, except for the very first day of the month. I have hope that I will catch up.

My cabin has been great. It’s just me and a couple of friends so our genres and word count goals are all over the place. The message board is active though, and so encouraging!

This month is all about finishing the first draft of The Dreams. I have no idea if I can pull it off. If I can reach “the end” without hitting 50k, I’ll be happier than if I reach 50k but haven’t finished the draft. I know where the story is going, but I don’t have a definite scene-by-scene plan through to the end. That makes me a little nervous.

If CampNaNoWriMo goes like NaNoWriMo did last year I’ll spend a day making a detailed outline of every plot point leading up to the end of the novel. As long as I can convince myself it is procrastination I’m sure it will happen one of these days.

I’m still trying to post chapters this month too. I didn’t bother back in November so this is new territory for me. We will see if I’ve piled too much on myself.

One big thing I realized (possibly thanks to a writing trance) is that I need to stop picking the second draft to pieces. I’m going to revise/rewrite each of these chapters at least one more time. Agonizing over each sentence at this point just isn’t worth it. Hopefully this revelation will get me back on track and you’ll see a chapter posted every Saturday again. I’m equally hopeful that my less picked apart second draft won’t be absolutely awful, but please be sure to let me know if it is bad!

How is CampNaNoWriMo going for you? Are you ahead on your word count? Behind? Have you had any great writing realizations so far this month?
