Do you use music to inspire and motivate you while writing?
I do, and I tend to have one or two songs at a time that really get me in a creative mood.

I listen to a lot of metal and lately the Australian album “Griseus” by Aquilus has been really good background music for my writing. Also Tesseract’s “Polaris”. (Kamelot would be a great choice if I were writing gothic fantasy, I think!) I tend to need music that doesn’t have too many words. Sometimes I’ll go for Ludovico Einaudi’s classical-style piano compositions or even just bird song recordings like Listening Earth’s “Tall Forest,” which conjures up image for me of the forests near my hometown. 🙂

I don’t mind songs with lyrics once I know the words. When I first listen to a song the words can trip me up though because my brain wants to commit them to memory.
