June 6

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 121,102
  • Today’s word count: 223
  • Thoughts: I wrote. It wasn’t as much as I would have liked, but I still wrote. I spent the afternoon very distracted by waiting for a package to be delivered. I was worried it was going to be left at our front door and end up damaged or stolen by some of the kids roaming around out there. Most of them are perfectly decent kids, but a few of them are just awful. My package was delivered safely though so no more worries.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Write more. I need to finish this scene!

June 7

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 121,805
  • Today’s word count: 703
  • Thoughts: This is an amazing word count considering I was sleep deprived all day and spent hours on my cell phone trying to get my internet straightened out once and for all. It’s working now, but it always seems to work late at night and in the morning. We’ll see if having a tech visit actually makes a difference…
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Revising. Writing. Trying not to let my day be ruined by waiting for a tech visit.

June 8

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 122,461
  • Today’s word count: 656
  • Thoughts: My internet is repaired! I’m so excited! It’s amazing actually being able to go about my daily routine without constantly having web pages time out or losing my connection altogether for hours. I even managed to get a decent amount of writing done today!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Sleep! Write! Revise! So many plans!

June 9

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 122,671
  • Today’s word count: 210
  • Thoughts: The next chapter is completely revised! I wrote a bit too! Good times!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I just want to continuing being productive.

June 10

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 122,915
  • Today’s word count: 244
  • Thoughts: Today just was not as productive as I had hoped it would be. I felt kind of stuck with the scene I’m working on so I  spent a lot of time thinking rather than writing.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Post the next chapter. Write!

No writing progress made. Posted the latest chapter, picked strawberries, hosted anime club… didn’t leave a lot of time for writing.

June 12

Another day of no writing progress. My weekend ended up being pretty busy! Usually I try to spread out chores through the week so they don’t take up all my time and wear me out, but prepping and freezing fresh fruit can’t really be put off for too long.

I’m hoping taking a weekend away from my writing will end up being a good thing. Sometimes stepping away can give me a fresh perspective and renew my energy. Sometimes I come back and just feel lost for a few days. Only time will tell what the results of this break will be.

Do you take regular breaks from your writing?  Is there anything special you do to get back into things after a break? I’d love to know in the comments!

  1. “The Dreams” is a fiction novel? You have written 122,000+ words? I’m struggling for writing 50,000 words… can you give any tips? ;P

    • One thing that’s really helped me with The Dreams is adding things as I go. I started out with a plan for this novel, but now that I’m writing it I’m still adding to the story. Sometimes it’s stuff that’s just for me and will probably get deleted by the time I reach my final draft, but in these early drafts I allow myself to add things and really explore my characters and the events that are happening to them. Some of the stuff I added turned out even better than the stuff I planned form the start and those things are probably going to stick around.

      • That’s a great advice! I always thought ‘planning a novel’ is everything (I’m not a planner, I always do what pleases me at that moment!). So I find it very difficult to plan everything beforehand. I’m happy that it’s not the case. Thank you for your advice!
