September 12

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 172,000
  • Today’s word count: 1,020
  • Thoughts: I did most of today’s writing late at night. I don’t know why it is easier for me to write then, but I wish I could reach my goal earlier in the day just so I wouldn’t have to worry about not making it all day.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Maybe I’ll reach my goal earlier in the day since I stressed myself out some much thinking I wouldn’t make it.

September 13

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 173,008
  • Today’s word count: 1,008
  • Thoughts: Today was a really exciting day! I’m back on track to start another streak of 1,000+ word days and Patreon just started a partnership with Discord so I spent some time setting that up. Now any of my Patrons that link their Discord account to Patreon will be invited to join my server and chat with me. Pretty cool, right?
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Another 1,000 word day, please? I’ve been maxing out at 3 day streak and I’d love to hit 4+ this time!

September 14

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 174,116
  • Today’s word count: 1,108
  • Thoughts: I had another day where the majority of my writing happened very late at night. I stayed up way past my usual bedtime writing. Word happened so I’m not going to complain too much. Just don’t get between me and my coffee in the morning.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Revision day! I need to revise this week’s chapter and after that I hope to write even more.

September 15

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 175,134
  • Today’s word count: 1,018
  • Thoughts: I revised and then I still managed to have a net gain of over 1,000 words. I’m really pleased with the amount of progress I’m making day by day, but it is also making me think about how much I will need to structurally alter The Dreams when I go back to rewrite it. For now I’m just telling the story as best I can, but I can already see room for improvement. Does this happen to anyone else?
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I need to keep my streak going!

September 16

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 176,626
  • Today’s word count: 1,492
  • Thoughts: I started out struggling to produce words today. I woke up with a revising mindset and it took me hours to get out of it. Then it clicked and I wrote more words than I intended. It ended up being a great day.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Post this week’s chapter and then lots and lots of writing. I’m feeling motivated and I want to see if I can’t beat today’s word count.

September 17

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 177,652
  • Today’s word count: 1,026
  • Thoughts: I’m really excited that I’ve met my daily word count goal six days in a row. It’s a good sign! My only regret is that I seem to be falling into a habit of doing all my writing very late at night. There’s nothing wrong with writing late at night, but it does stress me out a bit not to have my day’s number one priority completed until after midnight.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. This time I’ll try to finish a bit earlier.

September 18

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 178,710
  • Today’s word count: 1,058
  • Thoughts: I didn’t get into writing until late in the day again. I tried to get started earlier and felt a lot of mental resistance. On a small positive note, I did finish my writing for the day a half hour earlier than yesterday.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Keep writing and working on getting my writing done a bit earlier. I’d like my old bedtime back.

  1. You’re not the only one, I keep seeing weaknesses and things I could do better even as I’m writing the first draft of my current novel. If I feel it’s important, I try to jot it down, but mostly I just ignore it and go on. It’s hard tho!

    • It is really hard to resist going back and changing it as I’m going. I’m holding off because I know I’m too close to the story right now. Once I finish writing it and let it sit for a while I’ll reread it and see if I still spot the same problems.
