It’s almost here! It’s almost time for NaNoWriMo!
Wow! Time is flying! Can you believe the writing frenzy that is NaNoWriMo will start in one week?
I’m feeling horribly unprepared. Not only am I scrambling to finish up the final scenes of The Dreams before November 1, but I also don’t have a name for one of the main characters in Inbetween.
He had a name. Then I threw that name away and I haven’t found a good replacement. I’m doubting my decision now. I know it sounds silly to fret over a name so much. It can always be changed later. The name is just a symptom of the problem I’m having.
I’m changing things. I wrote a version of this story in the past, but it has a lot of problems. A reimagining and a rewrite should fix a lot of those problems, but I’m hesitating to change too much. I need to get over this mental roadblock and fast.
Maybe I will feel better about changing things once I start writing. Right now it feels like I’m a mess. I’m hoping I can get started and push those doubts to the side. All of this planning and preparation is just making me compare my plans with what I’ve created in the past. Once my new draft is underway I can forget all about the old versions.
In terms of non-writing NaNoWriMo prep I’m right on track. I have ideas for quick, easy meals and I intend to start off the month with tons of leftovers to heat up. I’m trying to decide on the perfect color of fountain pen ink for this story. Once I’ve settled on one (or two) I’ll clean out a couple of my pens and fill them with that color to use for notes during NaNoWriMo.
How is your NaNoWriMo prep going? Are you ready to go or scrambling to get everything ready in time? Are any of your characters requesting name changes at this stage?
Man, going as deep as thinking about meals is a level of preparedness for NaNoWriMo I hadn’t even considered! I was just excited to have most of my outline sketched out and a nice, organized Google Drive folder to work with. Sounds like you’re well set. Good luck next week!

Thanks! Our budget these days doesn’t allow for take out too often and I’m the one that doesn’t burn water so I do the cooking and my boyfriend cleans up. Having a stockpile of meals that just need to be reheated makes both our jobs easier since it will mean less pots and pans for him to wash in November too.
