Writing Progress December 12 – 18, 2016

December 12

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 20,735
  • Today’s word count: 63
  • Thoughts: I’m not sure why I had such a hard time writing today. I wrapped up one scene and just could not get into the next one. I’m still feeling a bit numb from finishing The Dreams and getting out of that mindset is proving difficult.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing! I need to get a couple decent writing days in to get my mind in a better place. Getting the ball rolling will be painful, but once it starts things should be easier.

December 13

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 20,809
  • Today’s word count: 74
  • Thoughts: Another crappy writing day. I really wish I’d written more. It was just a crappy, stressful day in general. I don’t want to go into it too much, but my phone’s decline is picking up speed so I’ve been desperately scrambling to find a phone in my budget that isn’t already two steps behind the rest of the pack.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Writing. I need to write so, so much. It isn’t just a desire to make progress in my novel. I need to write to stay sane. I have too many plot threads tangling up in my brain. Those threads need to get out so I can unravel them somewhere with enough space for the job.

December 14

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 20,941
  • Today’s word count: 132
  • Thoughts: I really need to figure out what is keeping me from having epic writing days. This has been going on too long for me to think that it is simple burn out from NaNoWriMo. Now I think I need to figure out what I’m afraid of writing in this story. If there is one thing I’ve learned from The Dreams, it’s that I slow down when I’m afraid of writing something. I need to move past the fear.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Revising! I need to get the first chapter of Inbetween ready for everyone!

December 15

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 20,989
  • Today’s word count: 48
  • Thoughts: Revision day! It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. I was surprised and then I realized I probably shouldn’t be so surprised. A lot of my struggles during revisions came from The Dreams being so long and needing to focus on keeping things as consistent with earlier parts as possible while at the same time trying to shape the story to my current vision. The first chapter of Inbetween has a lot less baggage attached to it than the final chapters of The Dreams. It’s liberating.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Finish up revisions and get back to writing. I’m starting to feel good about my work again. Yay!

December 16

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 21,024
  • Today’s word count: 35
  • Thoughts: More revisions and not enough time to deal with them all. Between weekly groceries and holiday shopping I spent way too much time outside of the house today.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Get the first chapter of Inbetween posted to this blog! I’m so excited!

December 17

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 21,146
  • Today’s word count: 122
  • Thoughts: I felt like I was productive with my writing today, but my word count tells a different story. The first chapter of Inbetween was posted today, so that’s something! Other than that, my mind seems to be all over the place. Jumping from one thing to the next makes it difficult to write.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Try the writing thing again. Maybe I’ll have better luck.

December 18

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 21,160
  • Today’s word count: 14
  • Thoughts: All of my good intentions went down the drain. I was distracted for most of the day by my own mind. I thought I could write at night and make up for it, but I started to feel sick and went to bed early. I regret not writing earlier in the day.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Kick the sick and get back to writing. I need to get some writing done before I start losing entire days to holiday parties.
