Did I Win CampNaNoWriMo?

Winning and failing a personal challenge event like CampNaNoWriMo is all a matter of perspective, isn’t it?

Did I officially win? I set a target word count and failed to meet that target, so officially I failed the CampNaNoWriMo challenge.

Do I still consider July CampNaNoWriMo to be a success? Yes! I’ve had Camps in the past that were total disasters. This one was not.

I started out the month with an almost impossibly high goal. I decided to lower it later in the month to a word count that was more reasonable, but still challenging. In the end, I failed to meet that lowered goal, but I managed to have the best monthly word count since last November.

I wrote over 14,000 words in July. I wanted to write more, but I couldn’t be more proud of the words I did write. They’ll need to be polished, of course, but I know I can work with them. Maybe if I’d pushed myself harder I would have written more words, but there’s a good chance that I would have more words that I hate and need to cut immediately.

My graph for the month isn’t perfect, but it shows progress. I’m really proud of the consistent progress I managed at the end of the month. If I can keep up that sort of writing routine, I’ll be in great shape.

How did CampNaNoWriMo go for you? Did you have any sort of unofficial win for Camp?

  1. progress is the only thing that matters 😀 Progress is better than just a blank page… You wrote words and created characters, events and plots. You should be very proud, 14K is amazing ❤
