• Today’s word count: 558
• Thoughts: Yay! More words! Another milestone too! And! I worked on the outline for the next draft of The Dreams. I need to find a better way to measure my progress on that, but for now I’ll just keep noting that I’ve made progress here. I’m impatient to start writing it, but I know that it’ll be better if I map out the whole story before I start writing again.
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. More outlining. More progress.

August 8

• Today’s word count: 884
• Thoughts: I wrote! I stayed up late writing! It was great. I only wish I could write this much and more without staying up half the night. Time to work on training my brain to write earlier, I guess.
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing! I’m feeling so motivated these days. I want to keep writing more and more.

August 9

• Project: Inbetween

• Today’s word count: 969
• Thoughts: Writing! I’ve been writing so much lately. I’ve been making little games up in my head to see if I can write more words and so far it is working. There might be a blog post in there somewhere about tricking myself into writing more. We’ll see.
• Tomorrow’s goal: Thursday is revision day. Time to get another chapter polished up to get posted this weekend.

August 10

• Project: Inbetween

• Today’s word count: 543
• Thoughts: I made so much progress today. I revised the entire chapter for this week and I ended the day with a net gain over over 500 words (I actually wrote over 700 because I had deleted words during revisions [I should probably find a better way to reflect that in this log]).
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I feel like that’s my goal every day, but I’m so enthusiastic about my work these days. It feels like the only priority I have right now.

August 11

• Project: Inbetween

• Today’s word count: 638
• Thoughts: More writing! Sometimes I feel like I’m not making much progress. What I’m writing can feel a lot like filler, but when I’m revising I try to cut the filler and leave behind the parts that actually seem insightful and to progress the plot. I hope I’m doing a good job with this first draft writing thing.
• Tomorrow’s goal: I have a chapter to post, a street fair to attend, and more writing to do. Sounds like a good Saturday to me.

August 12

• Today’s word count: 906
• Thoughts: I struggled to start writing today. Once I started, it seemed like the words just tumbled out of me. I’m not sure if any of them are even good words, but I wrote them and sorting them out and making something usable of them will come later.
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I’m feeling really motivated right now. I hope I can keep this streak going.

August 13

• Project: Inbetween

• Today’s word count: 1,058
• Thoughts: So much writing! And I hit 100,000 words with Inbetween. I’m floored. I can’t believe this story is so long. I’ve been writing so much lately, but it’s all very, very first draft material. A lot of what I’ve written is me working through character motivations and relationships now that the story has changed so much. It’s not a bad thing. I think it is necessary, but I’ll have a lot work to do when I go to revise. It’s worth it to know what I need to do going forward with the story.
