August 14

• Project: Inbetween
• Total word count: 101,125
• Today’s word count: 797
• Thoughts: Getting started today was such a struggle. It took forever for me to start writing, but once I did, the words started pouring out. I’m not sure how usable any of the words will be, but I will worry about that later. First drafts are about pouring ideas out into text.
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I don’t want to mess up this streak. I’m too proud of it to let it stop.

August 15

• Project: Inbetween

• Today’s word count: 758
• Thoughts: I felt like it was taking me a really long time to get started with writing, but it actually wasn’t that long and once I got started it was easy to keep going. I can’t tell I’m building up my stamina and I’m going to keep pushing myself to write more than my current average every day.
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. It’s getting easier and easier to get larger word counts every day. It’s exciting and really encourages me to keep going.

August 16

• Project: Inbetween

• Today’s word count: 665
• Thoughts: Writing! I’m making progress, I can feel it. At the same time, I’m worrying that I’m writing a lot of fluff and filler. If I am, I know I can clean it up during revisions, but the worry is still there. What can I do? If I try too hard to avoid fluff I end up slowing myself down to a crawl. I don’t want that. I guess I’ll keep going and revise like mad.
• Tomorrow’s goal: Thursday is revision day. I know I’ll have my work cut out for me. If I have time, I’ll write as well.

August 17

• Project: Inbetween

• Today’s word count: 207
• Thoughts: I revised a lot today. If it wasn’t for that, I’d be disappointed in my word count, but I think I spent more time working on my writing today than any other day this week. Still trying to come up with a better way to quantify my progress than just word count. It’s harder than it sounds.
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I’m sure I can get back on track.

August 18

• Project: Inbetween

• Today’s word count: 667
• Thoughts: I managed to work in the outline for The Dreams and reached the end of what I consider the first arc of the story. I also wrote for a while. I’m not sure I like any of what I wrote, but if it is garbage I can always throw it out during revisions. I feel like I’ve bee writing a lot of long, meandering scenes lately. I’m not sure I like it. I’d much rather get to the point and keep the story moving.
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Get this week’s chapter posted.

August 19

• Today’s word count: 658
• Thoughts: I wrote! It took most of the day for me to have the time and focus to write, but it did happen eventually.
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing! Monday is just around the corner and Sunday is a great day for accomplishing left over goals.

August 20

• Today’s word count: 554
• Thoughts: Writing today was more of a struggle than it should have been. I’m not sure what the problem was, but it really slowed me down. I’m pretty sure I have a hitch in this scene that needs to be smoothed out before the writing becomes easy again.
• Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I need to smooth out this scene and make writing easy again.
