Writing Progress November 20 – 26, 2017

DailyWritingProgress

November 20

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 132,334
  • Today’s word count: 1,147
  • Thoughts: Today was the first day I felt completely migraine-free. It was liberating. And distracting. I wanted to do so many things because I finally felt well enough to do them, and it did take me away from my writing.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Back to writing. I feel like I have a bit of a buffer with Inbetween again so I want to dig back into The Dreams and let my word count really take off.

November 21

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 20,027
  • Today’s word count: 850
  • Thoughts: Today doesn’t look as productive, but it was quite a struggle to get to where I did. The problem with jumping between two projects is the disconnect that happens when I initially switch. I struggled with that today. I needed to get back into the story which requires some time.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: A bit of revising. Plenty of writing.

November 22

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 20,616
  • Today’s word count: 589
  • Thoughts: Today was not a fantastic writing day. I was distracted by thoughts of Thanksgiving. I’ll just blame it on that because I can’t think anything else that might have distracted me this much today.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Thanksgiving. Maybe some writing and revising. We’ll see. I don’t want to put a lot of expectations on the day.

November 23

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 20,640
  • Today’s word count: 24
  • Thoughts: Today’s word count would be a terrible one if it wasn’t Thanksgiving. I’m cutting myself some slack since I was out of the house for most of the day and too sleepy to do much when I got home.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Back to writing. I think I can do it!

November 24

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 20,774
  • Today’s word count: 134
  • Thoughts: It wasn’t the great comeback I was hoping for, but I did write some words and I will always be glad for days that I can at least sit down and write a sentence or two.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I’m hoping for a great comeback. I’ve made plans to write with friends tomorrow evening which should help, but I’m going to be busy during the day and I might be low on energy by the time I have accountability buddies.

November 25

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 22,874
  • Today’s word count: 2,100
  • Thoughts: I seem to be making a comeback. Writing again, really writing, feels fantastic. Writing a couple sentences on the hard days keeps me attached to the project, but it doesn’t make the world in my head live and breathe the way a really good writing day does.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I need another good writing day. Actually, I need the rest of the month to be really, really good writing days if I’m going to win this NaNoWriMo. I think I can do it. Let’s see if I do!

November 26

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 24,640
  • Today’s word count: 1,766
  • Thoughts: I had some really good sprints today. My downfall was my sleep deprivation. I slept a lot today. I needed the sleep, though. The holiday weekend kept me off a decent sleep schedule for a few days. If I had been well rests, I’m sure I would have written more and sprinted more.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. More sprinting. I hope I’ll feel more rested and that will help me climb out of this word count deficit. I might manage to get a chapter of Inbetween posted if I have the energy and motivation to make it happen.

NaNoWriMo 2017 Week 3 Recap

NaNo-2017-Participant-Facebook-Cover

I’ll be brief. Week 3 was terrible!

A migraine mostly took me out of the running for several days. I was already behind at the start of this week, and barely functioning at all for several days did not make that gap any smaller. I just barely managed to keep my writing streak for the month going. I forced myself to write at least a few words every day so I can get the badge for writing 30 days in a row on NaNoWriMo.

I have a lot of writing ahead of me in Week 4 and Thanksgiving might help or hurt my ability to get caught up depending on how the holiday goes. There’s more than enough time to make a comeback from almost anything so I’m not giving up.

How was Week 3 for you? Winning has begun. Have you validated your novel and turned your progress bar purple?

Writing Progress November 13 – 19, 2017

DailyWritingProgress

November 13

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 129,741
  • Today’s word count: 1,537

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 17,754
  • Today’s word count: 258

  • Thoughts: Today was a productive day. I was really motivated to create a scene in Inbetween and I think it showed. There’s still a bit of that scene to wrap up, but I’m so proud of the progress I made today. My only regret is that it took a lot of the energy I would have normally put toward The Dreams, but there will be other days to tackle that story.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I’m still a bit behind on my word count for the month, but I’m pretty confident I have the ability to make up those words within the next day or two.

November 14

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 129,965
  • Today’s word count: 224

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 17,865
  • Today’s word count: 111

  • Thoughts: Today was not the day of writing I was hoping for, but I did write and I suppose that has to count for something. I was incredibly anxious for reasons I still don’t understand for most of the day and that made it very hard to focus on writing.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing! Revising! I have a lot on my plate and I have to hope I can handle it.

November 15

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 129,964
  • Today’s word count: -1

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 18,441
  • Today’s word count: 576

  • Thoughts: I wish I could blame my lackluster word count on revising a chapter of Inbetween. I did work on revisions, but I don’t think it was the reason I was so slow today. Today the words just were not on my side.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More revising. More writing. I have to keep believing that tomorrow will be the day I get caught up.

November 16

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 19,085
  • Today’s word count: 664
  • Thoughts: Today was a weird, weird day. I didn’t feel well pretty much all day, and the times when I wasn’t feeling absolutely awful, I felt like I couldn’t concentrate on anything at all. I didn’t touch my chapter revisions today because I was worried about making a bigger mess of things.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Get over this weirdness and write. Also, revise!

November 17

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 19,177
  • Today’s word count: 92
  • Thoughts: Well, it turns out the weirdness was the start of a migraine. Yippee! Not much happened today. I wrote a bit just to keep my NaNoWriMo streak going for the month.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Kick the migraine. Get back to work. Have an awesome, amazing day of writing.

November 18

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 130,018
  • Today’s word count: 54
  • Thoughts: Well, today didn’t go exactly like I planned. I spent the first half of the day still battling the migraine. I got better later and managed to finish revising this week’s chapter of Inbetween. I only wrote a couple sentences in addition to that before I was ready to sleep.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: With the migraine behind me, I want to dive back into writing. I know I can do it. The ideas are there. I just need to buckle down and get them out of my head.

November 19

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 131,187
  • Today’s word count: 1,169
  • Thoughts: Well, it looks like I’m making a comeback. I just wish I could have written enough today to start making a come back for NaNoWriMo, but what I wrote is certainly better than nothing.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing! I know I can write more than I did today.

NaNoWriMo 2017 Week 2 Recap

NaNo-2017-Participant-Facebook-Cover

Wow! Week 2 is already behind us. It feels like we just finished the first week, doesn’t it?

The second week of NaNoWriMo is always terrible for me. The excitement and energy of the early days has worn off, late nights are coming back to bite me, and real life is starting to make some serious demands on my time.

The second week this year was no different. I had some pretty good days, but I had several awful days as well. My two best writing days of the month so far happened during the last week, but my two worst writing days happened as well. The good days were not quite enough to balance out the bad ones.

I’m starting to panic about my dwindling backlog of writing for Inbetween. I’m making an effort to keep the buffer from disappearing completely, but I’m starting to feel a bit nervous about the coming weeks. Getting the chapters revised and formatted hasn’t been too much of a problem, but as I start to have more adulting to do, I’ll start to run out of time for both writing and revising.

For the most part writing the new draft of The Dreams has been going great. Some parts are still difficult to write. It’s not a case of not know what to write, but writing about stuff that still hits pretty close to home. I think I pulled my punches too much last time I wrote this story, particularly in the early parts and I’m trying to fix that problem this time around. The story is purely fiction, but certain parts are very much inspired by my life and digging into this stuff still hurts no matter how careful I am.

I’m sticking to my plan of posting completed and lightly edited scenes from this new draft of The Dreams to my Patreon. So far I’m feeling pretty great about the whole thing. Nothing I’ve written so far has been too incomprehensible so that’s always helpful.

As of right now I’m about 4.5k behind the target word count. If I pushed myself I could make up all those words in one day. I’ve written that much and more in one day before, but doing it would probably burn me out. My plan for the next week is to gradually get caught up. If I can do it, the last week or so of the month will be a breeze.

How was your week 2? Are you ahead? Behind? Already past your goal?

Are you ready for week 3?

Writing Progress November 6 – 12, 2017

DailyWritingProgress

November 6

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 9,130
  • Today’s word count: 749
  • Thoughts: Today is the first day of this NaNoWriMo that I went to bed without having passed the word count goal for the day. It just wasn’t a good day in general health-wise so the idea of staying up longer to reach my goal just sounded terrible.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Catch up! Maybe even get ahead. I think I can do it.

November 7

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 127,887
  • Today’s word count: 566

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 10,145
  • Today’s word count: 1,015

  • Thoughts: Today was pretty productive. I worked on both my projects, which I thought I might end up doing more often. The only reason I haven’t is because it is hard to switch my train of thought from one to the other. Today it went well so maybe I should be less hesitant moving forward.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I’m still trying to catch up after having a lackluster day on Monday.

November 8

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 127,890
  • Today’s word count: 3

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 12,758
  • Today’s word count: 2,613

  • Thoughts: Today was a very productive day thanks to sprinting with friends. I started work on revising this week’s chapter of Inbetween. Then I dived into writing The Dreams. Today was my most productive day of the month so far, word count-wise.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More revising. More writing. I want to keep on track or pull ahead of the target word count for the rest of the month.

November 9

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 127,873
  • Today’s word count: -17

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 14,549
  • Today’s word count: 1,791

  • Thoughts: Today was a productive day. I finished revising a chapter for this weekend and I finished writing an early scene I was looking forward to in The Dreams.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Writing! So much writing. I plan to write as much of both my stories as I possibly can. We’ll see how that works out since Friday has become errand day lately.

November 10

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 127,913
  • Today’s word count: 40

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 14,616
  • Today’s word count: 67

  • Thoughts: It was harder to write today than I could have predicted. I was distracted and just did not have the energy to put behind my will to writing when I found the inclination. In the end, it seemed like a better idea to go to sleep and try again tomorrow.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Post a chapter of Inbetween and write, write, write to make up my word count for NaNoWriMo.

November 11

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 17,090
  • Today’s word count: 2,474
  • Thoughts: Today almost beat my most productive day of the month so far. I probably could have surpassed it, but I gave myself permission to goof off for a while because I had already surpassed 2k for the day and when I returned to writing I was too tired to make any real effort.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I think I can get caught up again and maybe even get ahead if I push myself enough.

November 12

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 128,204
  • Today’s word count: 291

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 17,496
  • Today’s word count: 406

  • Thoughts: Today wasn’t the best of days for writing, but it wasn’t the worst either. I got stuck and had to walk away from my keyboard to work them out. It helped, but also cut into my writing time.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. It is NaNoWriMo, after all!
