Writing Progress June 18 – 24, 2018

daily writing progress

June 18

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 176,570
  • Today’s word count: 106
  • Thoughts: I wrote! It’s something. After taking two days off when I didn’t really intend to do so, I’m just happy to be getting some words down again.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Hopefully a lot more.

June 19

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 176,595
  • Today’s word count: 25
  • Thoughts: Today was not what I thought it would be. I ended up having a lot of non-writing activities that took up most of my time and energy. Once I sat down to write I was too tired to do much more than fix up a bit of a scene I’d written last week.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing! I know I can do it. As long as I keep trying I will get my writing mojo back.

June 20

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 176,785
  • Today’s word count: 190
  • Thoughts: Today was slightly more productive. I was still hurt by my sudden change in sleep schedule. I need to adapt to not staying up half the night to get my writing done since staying up that late seems impossible now.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Revising, I hope.

June 21

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 177,132
  • Today’s word count: 347
  • Thoughts: Today wasn’t bad. I managed to stay up a bit later and do some of my usual night writing and it is reflected in my word count. Hopefully I can keep up this trend of improvement.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Revising. I want to do a bit of everything, but it’s Friday so there’s a good chance I’ll be distracted and do next to nothing with my writing.

June 22

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 177,343
  • Today’s word count: 211
  • Thoughts: Today was better than a typical Friday. I got a lot of work done. I wrote and I got a chapter revised. I really can’t complain, although I’d love to get more done.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Post a chapter! More writing! I think I can pull it off.

June 23

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 177,514
  • Today’s word count: 171
  • Thoughts: My word count isn’t spectacular, but I did get a chapter posted and had a wonderful day out of the house and away from my keyboard. That’s been happening more often lately with the weather being nice, but I think it is a positive thing in the long run. I might not be writing, but I am experiencing and I can use those experiences later.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I shouldn’t have much else to do so hopefully I can sit down and really focus on producing some words I can be proud of later.

June 24

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 177,955
  • Today’s word count: 441
  • Thoughts: I’m pretty proud of the progress I made today. I thought for a while I wouldn’t get much accomplished at all, but then I made myself sit down and write before going to bed and the words just started tumbling out. Some of it was pretty silly and didn’t stick around for very long at all, but I made a decent number of words that felt pretty good to me and I kept all of those. We’ll see if I still love them when I go back to revised.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I think I’m getting back into the swing of things. I hope I can continue to write more and more in the upcoming week.

Writing Progress June 11 – 17, 2018

daily writing progress

June 11

No progress made. I got a chapter posted (finally) and that was about it. My mind was just not in a writerly place and I decided not to push it. I’ll just try to be happy with getting a chapter posted.

June 12

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 176,127
  • Today’s word count: 373
  • Thoughts: I made actual progress! It felt great! This is the sort of day I’ve been waiting for all month. I just needed to get started again. Now that I have I’ll have to keep the ball rolling.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I might revise too. I have more of the new draft of The Dreams to share once I get it polished up a bit.

June 13

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 176,273
  • Today’s word count: 146
  • Thoughts: Today wasn’t as productive as I wanted it to be. I had high hopes and I can’t believe how little I managed to accomplish.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Revising. I want to do it all and maybe I’ll actually be able to manage it.

June 14

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 176,430
  • Today’s word count: 157
  • Thoughts: Today was weird. I struggled. I don’t really know why, either. It was just a hard day in general. I tried to write and just kept getting distracted. I don’t want to be distracted!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Hopefully some revising. I’m going to keep trying no matter what.

June 15

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 176,464
  • Today’s word count: 34
  • Thoughts; Today was a Friday. It definitely felt like a Friday. I didn’t get much writing done. I couldn’t. Everything else in my life was demanding my attention.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Try to write. I have another demanding day ahead of me so I’m not going to put too much pressure on myself.

June 16

No progress made. I had a busy day away from my keyboard and was too excited to sleep much before my big day of fun. I went out to yard sales in the morning, took a nap to recover in the afternoon, and spent time with family in the evening. I was exhausted after that and went to bed early.

June 17

No progress made again. I had another early start today and what little energy I had left after a morning of picking strawberries was sapped by the oppressive heat. I tried to keep cool and ended up going to bed early instead of writing late at night when I get most of my work done.

Tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter, but I’m hoping to get some writing done anyway.

Coming Soon: CampNaNoWriMo

Camp-2018-Writer-Twitter-Header

CampNaNoWriMo is just around the corner!

I don’t think I’ve every waited this long to start thinking/talking about my plans for Camp. There’s sort of a reason for this (and only sort of because I’m usually too excited to stay quiet anyway). I’m still working on the same project.

For months now I’ve been slowly pecking away at a new draft of The Dreams. I feel like I’m treading water which has tanked my enthusiasm.

It sucks because I love this story. At least a few other people love this story too and they’re counting on me to keep working on subsequent drafts until I have something shiny and as close to perfect as an oversized fantasy novel can get.

Maybe the pressure is getting to me a bit. I’ve been juggling two projects for a while now. I’ve written about how much I enjoy being able to switch gears with different project in the past, and I usually find having options to be freeing, but now I’m experiencing the downside to multiple projects.

I’m torn between projects.

Inbetween is a demanding monster of a story. I can’t seem to stay far enough ahead in my writing to feel comfortable leaving it alone for long. I write a couple chapters ahead, think I have a good buffer, and when I turn around it is gone and I’m left scrambling again.

If I want to make any real progress with The Dreams, I need a decent amount of time to get immersed in the story again. Lately, that has not been an option. I’ve been picking away at the same scene for a while now because of this.

Hopefully CampNaNoWriMo will give me the kick in the pants I need to turn this around. Announcing to the world that I’m going to work on The Dreams in July should take away a bit of the guilt I feel from time to time when I neglect Inbetween to work on The Dreams.

Right now the plan is to set a low goal. Not only have I been struggling to write The Dreams, but this month I’ve been struggling to write in general. To keep my goal within grasp, I’m only aiming to write 10,000 words in July. If I do really well, I’ll raise the goal, but for now I think I need to start small and give myself a chance to win.

Are you planning to participate in CampNaNoWriMo in July? Are you aiming high or sticking with a low writing goal?

Writing Progress June 4 – 10, 2018

daily writing progress

June 4

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 175,115
  • Today’s word count: 65
  • Thoughts: Today was another bad writing day. This streak is going to be harder to break than I originally thought.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Get back to writing. I’m trying to get a decent amount of sleep every night so I’m optimistic. Once my brain is working better I should be able to write more.

June 5

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 175,229
  • Today’s word count: 114
  • Thoughts: Still struggling. I’m going to get out of this slump. I will.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I know I can get back to a decent writing pace if I just keep trying. Giving up is the only way to fail.

June 6

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 175,342
  • Today’s word count: 113
  • Thoughts: I’m still struggling to get my writing mojo back. I’m just too easily distracted these days! Next step: figure out what I need to cut from my day to make it easier to concentrate on my work.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing and hopefully some revising too!

June 7

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 175,629
  • Today’s word count: 287
  • Thoughts: I think I might be getting my mojo back! I know I’ve said that before, but I think it might be true now. Then again, I might be jumping the gun. I’m cautiously optimistic, I guess!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: It will be Friday, but I’m going to do everything I can to not let the Friday curse mess me up this week.

June 8

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 175,638
  • Today’s word count: 9
  • Thoughts: Today was a weird day. I had a lot of goals. I met some of them. Mostly I worked on making the chapter I’ve been picked away at a little bit better.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Finish up revising and get a chapter posted!

June 9

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 175,656
  • Today’s word count: 18
  • Thoughts: Ugh. Another day of struggling to write anything at all. I mostly focused on adding some words to the chapter I’ve been working on. There are certain parts I’m not sure are fleshed out enough. The whole chapter needs to evening out since I wrote it with so many starts and stops.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing and revising. If I manage to make some real progress for once I should get a new chapter up too.

June 10

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 175,754
  • Today’s word count: 98
  • Thoughts: I finished revisions/rewrites for a chapter! My word count doesn’t look too spectacular, but I put in a ton of time on Inbetween today.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. Get the chapter posted (finally)! I’m sure I can do it.
