Writing Progress March 4 – 10, 2019

daily writing progress

March 4

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 222,044
  • Today’s word count: 226
  • Thoughts: My back/shoulder still wasn’t anywhere near okay, but I managed to write. That made me feel a little bit better. Somehow I forget how hard it is to be creative while in pain every time.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing, I hope. I really just want to feel better so I can more easily concentrate on my project.

March 5

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 222,294
  • Today’s word count: 250
  • Thoughts: Shoulder is still a problem. I’m trying to work around it. I’m think I’ve been at least partially successful.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Feel better. Write more. Make progress with this story. I feel like I’ve been stuck on this part of the story for ages.

March 6

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 222,629
  • Today’s word count: 335
  • Thoughts: I finally finished the chapter I have been struggling with for what feels like an age. The relief I felt the second I realized it was done shocked me. I didn’t realize how much stress I’d been carrying around with me. Now I’m free!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Revise! Write something other than the chapter that’s been haunting me lately! I’m so excited to do something else!

March 7

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 222,664
  • Today’s word count: 35
  • Thoughts: My word count doesn’t show it, but today was a productive day. I revised a chapter. It’s posted on Patreon now. It’ll go up here in a few days. Then I did some planning and even wrote a bit. It was a pretty good day, in my opinion.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I’m taking a day off. I’ve talked about doing this and I’ve decided to give it a try. After struggling to write on Friday week after week, it seems silly to keep trying and only frustrating myself. I’m going to play some games. I might read some books or watch a new show. We’ll see!

March 8

I took the day off!

It was really great. I played Final Fantasy IX and Tetris 99 without feeling the least bit guilty about not giving all of my attention to my writing. I think I’ll do the same next Friday.

Usually I feel like I have to write every single day I feel able to write because I get sick often enough and need to take breaks then. Those days aren’t exactly great for relaxing and enjoying myself which has probably led to the rising levels of stress I’ve experienced. I think this has been a lesson for me. I need to intentionally take breaks instead of “saving” my break days for when I feel poorly.

March 9

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 222,807
  • Today’s word count: 143
  • Thoughts: Not great, but not terrible either. I allowed myself to be distracted a lot today, but I managed to write a bit. I liked the words I wrote so I’ll consider that a win.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I’m hoping for a quiet day full of writing (and I’ll try to post a chapter too). I just can’t let myself get distracted again. Video games will try to tempt me, but I must resist until I finish my work for the day!

March 10

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 222,846
  • Today’s word count: 39
  • Thoughts: I had a lot of personal issues distracting me from my writing today. I won’t go into detail about those issues here. In spite of my problems, I did manage to post a new chapter of Inbetween to the blog today!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Everything should be back under control so I see no reason I can’t write more. I feel like that’s my goal nearly every day, but honestly I’m happiest when I’m writing lots of words so it’s a goal that often comes to mind.
