Writing Progress June 10 -16, 2019

daily writing progress

June 10

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 234,234
  • Today’s word count: 328
  • Thoughts: I had a small burst of writing energy early in the day and then a long lull in my creative energy. I started to despair. Then I hopped on my laptop in another room and became productive again. Lesson learned: I need a change of scenery from time to time.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Don’t be afraid to move to another room if I’m not feeling particularly creative or productive. I want to keep writing. I want to write more every day. I have so many stories to write and I’m getting impatient while I’m stuck wrapping up Inbetween.

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 234,443
  • Today’s word count: 209
  • Thoughts: I procrastinated today. It doesn’t sound like a good thing, but it didn’t turn out too badly. I just really wanted to play a game today so I did that first. Writing happened later in the day and it doesn’t seem like my productivity suffered too much for it. Maybe I need to stop trying to hoard all my time away for writing and then feel guilty when things don’t work out that way.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. More other stuff too. I have time. I should use it to write and to experience things I might be able to use in my writing later.

June 12

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 234,787
  • Today’s word count: 344
  • Thoughts: Today wasn’t so bad. I had a reasonable bout of productivity and plenty of distractions throughout the day. There’s really nothing for me to complain about as long as I can keep improving from here.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I think I’m making some progress with this chapter, but I’m not sure how far I am from the end right now. I have a decent idea of where it will wind up, but getting there is still a mystery even to me. Hopefully my characters know something.

June 13

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 235,019
  • Today’s word count: 232
  • Thoughts: I tried to be more productive than yesterday but I struggled to find the right words. My characters were not as cooperative as I hoped. It’s a little disappointing, but I’m not going to let it get me down.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Write! I’m hoping my characters won’t continue to be uncooperative. Sleep usually helps untangle knots in the plot. Surely it can help with misbehaving characters as well. It’ll be Friday so there’s a small chance I won’t write at all, but I don’t think that will happen this week.

No writing progress made.

Yard sales took over my life. We walked all over town. I got an awesome teapot which was very exciting. Once I got home, I was out of energy. There was plenty of time to write, but no willpower to put into that time. It happens. It isn’t ideal, but some days just end up that way.

The teapot kind of made it worth it, in my opinion.img_20190614_144615_400June 15

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 235,497
  • Today’s word count: 478
  • Thoughts: What an impressively productive day! I was not expecting this level of productivity today. I had time. I sat down. I wrote. And wrote. No complaints here. I wish I had more days like today. I love the focus I felt. I need more of it!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. After the amount of productivity I had today, I can’t imagine having any other goal. I want to keep the writing mojo going!

June 16

  • Project: Inbetween
  • Total word count: 235,635
  • Today’s word count: 138
  • Thoughts: My own brain betrayed me today. I intended to write. I wanted to have another great day of writing, but I couldn’t focus. I felt stressed, restless and later exhausted. It wasn’t the ideal combination and it ended up hurting my productivity. The heat and humidity didn’t help things either.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Escape the heat and humidity somehow. I want to write more. The ideas in my head are begging to escape. I need to unleash them on the world as soon as possible. The universe, my body and my own mind might try to make it impossible, but I won’t be deterred for long. I will write!
