Writing Progress July 27–August 2, 2020

daily writing progress

July 27

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 184,000
  • Today’s word count: 277
  • Thoughts: I’m writing a bit more again, but it’s still not enough. This is still Camp NaNoWriMo. Not only do I need to hit my daily word count goal, I also need to play catch up after having a couple days with very little writing. I’m not so far behind that my goal is out of reach. It’s just going to take some effort.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing. I know what I need to do to get caught up. I just need to get on with it. The story is waiting to be finished.

July 28

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 184,796
  • Today’s word count: 796
  • Thoughts: Today was magic. I sat down and the words just came to me. I didn’t have to look for the words. They just showed up. I live for days like these. I just wish I knew it was coming so I could have been ready for all the words. With no other obligations I could have made today’s word count skyrocket.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing! I hope the words just keep showing up. If they do, I’ll be ready for it. Now that I know it’s a possibility I have to try to make it happen.

July 29

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 185,521
  • Today’s word count: 726
  • Thoughts: I can’t believe I almost wrote as much as yesterday. I knew I needed to be productive if I was going to get anywhere close to reaching my Camp NaNoWriMo goal, but I had almost resigned myself to stumbling at the finish line. I’m happy to prove myself wrong.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing, of course. I’m getting really close to my goal for the month. I think I might actually be able to win Camp NaNo for the first time ever.

July 30

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 185,989
  • Today’s word count: 468
  • Thoughts: I didn’t write as much as the past few days, but I wrote plenty to keep me on track to win Camp NaNoWriMo. I’m motivated and more than a little excited at the prospect of winning for once. I’m also getting close to the climax of this draft. It’s perfect timing.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Write more. Win Camp NaNoWriMo. It’s possible. I only have a couple hundred words to write to get to the finish line. It’ll be Friday but I’m not running errands so I’ll actually have time and I should be able to keep my composure while I attempt to write.

July 31

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 186,412
  • Today’s word count: 423
  • Thoughts: I did it! I won Camp NaNoWriMo! That hasn’t happened before. What was different this month? I had nowhere to go and nothing to do for most of the month. I’m just happy I finally did it.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Camp is over, but I’m still going to write. I can’t stop and that’s a good thing. There’s still a draft to finish, after all. I just want to have something to show for this awful, terrible year.

August 1

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 186,426
  • Today’s word count: 14
  • Thoughts: After winning Camp yesterday I didn’t want to push myself to write today. I woke up thinking I might not write at all, but then I had a moment of inspiration and wrote a sentence. I love moments like that, but it passed pretty quickly and I focused on other things during the day.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Back to writing, I hope. After taking it easy for a day I am feeling pretty refreshed. We’ll see what I can make of the day once it is here.

August 2

  • Project: the Dreams
  • Total word count: 186,775
  • Today’s word count: 349
  • Thoughts: I think I’m back on track. I sat down and wrote a really good conversation. It felt great. I think it’s the way I want it. We’ll see if I feel that way in a month or two when I go back to look over this draft.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing, of course! I really want to keep the momentum I built up in July going. I’m so glad I only needed a short break before I was able to get back to writing. I’m excited to finish this draft. I have so many plans for upcoming projects.
