Writing Progress August 10–16, 2020

daily writing progress

August 10

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 189,120
  • Today’s word count: 109
  • Thoughts: I’m really not impressed with my word count today. All day I felt restless and distracted. Then when I finally thought I’d reached the point in the day when I’d be able to settle down and write I was exhausted and just wanted to go to sleep.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing, I hope. I need to figure out a better way to buckle down and get to work. Hopefully a good night’s sleep will give me more energy and make it a little bit easier. I’ll probably still need to find a new way to trick myself into getting started.

August 11

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 189,395
  • Today’s word count: 275
  • Thoughts: Writing today definitely felt easier than yesterday. I was still a bit distracted, but I had so much more energy today than yesterday. That’s always good. I think it shows in my close-to-average word count.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully another good night’s sleep will increase my productivity again. I’m not lacking in motivation. Time, energy, and focus are the limiting factors. Energy seems like the easiest of those three to tackle since I know I haven’t been getting as much rest as I should lately. I can worry about the others later.

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 189,559
  • Today’s word count: 164
  • Thoughts: I struggled to focus today. I think I got enough sleep last night, but it didn’t seem to be enough to do the trick. Maybe the weather is getting to me. The summer weather is getting really getting old.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: It’s supposed to be a bit cooler so maybe that will help me feel a bit more like writing. There has to be something that will make everything click again. There always is. I just need to find it.

August 13

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 189,777
  • Today’s word count: 218
  • Thoughts: I feel like I’m getting back on track. I had at least a brief window of time today that felt like I understood what needed to be written and how to write it. Those moments are always great. I want more of them.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I want to write more, but it’ll be Friday. I don’t know where my mind will be after running errands. It might end up being a good day in spite of losing energy to errand, but I want to keep my expectations low so I can be pleasantly surprised.

August 14

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 189,914
  • Today’s word count: 137
  • Thoughts: It was Friday. My word count isn’t spectacular, but I managed to sit down and write something. That’s a win on any Friday. It’s more than I’ve done in other weeks. I’ll take it.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: It should be a quiet day at home. It’s not supposed to be too hot, but it won’t be a cool, rainy day either. Oh well. I’ll make the most of it. Maybe I’ll play a rain playlist while I write so I can pretend I have a rainy mood to write.

August 15

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 190,132
  • Today’s word count: 218
  • Thoughts: Today didn’t feel like to bad of a day for writing. The humidity made me feel a bit worn out, but once the sun went down and things cooled off I managed to write a little bit. Weekends can be distracting so I’m not going to complain about making progress.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I’m going to be busy in the morning but I’m hoping to dedicate my afternoon and evening to writing. I can’t wait to see what I accomplish.

August 16

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 190,342
  • Today’s word count: 210
  • Thoughts: I managed to write. It wasn’t much, but it was something. At least I know what went wrong today. I was exhausted. I got up too early and did a lot early in the day. I wanted to nap more than I wanted to write.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: After a good night’s sleep I should be ready to write again. We’ll see how things go, but I know I’m excited to keep this draft moving forward. I’m getting so close to the end. Once I’m there I get to start a new project and it’s going to be amazing.
