Writing Progress May 31–June 6, 2021

daily writing progress

May 31

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 212,526
  • Today’s word count: 42
  • Thoughts: I wrote! It wasn’t much. I was kinda still in a haze. I never know what to do on holidays. It makes me feel like I’m in limbo. It felt like Sunday. I knew it was Monday, but none of the Monday things were happening. I just did my best while feeling a little bit lost. I’m glad I managed to write something.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully things will feel a little more normal. I might be a little distracted by the day feeling like a Monday/Tuesday hybrid, but those days are usually pretty similar routine-wise for me so it shouldn’t be quite as jarring.

June 1

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 212,525
  • Today’s word count: -1
  • Thoughts: A negative word count looks bad, but I actually got a lot done today. I did a final look over the five chapters going up on Patreon this month. I needed to make some small changes and that led to a negative word count. I’d intended to write today as well, but I ran out of steam.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Back to writing! The June chapters are done so I don’t have to worry about them anymore. I can turn my attention back to writing things.

June 2

No writing progress made. I don’t really have a reason. I tried to write and it just didn’t happen.

June 3

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 212,540
  • Today’s word count: 15
  • Thoughts: I managed to actually write something today.  It wasn’t much, but I was determined not to get back into a writing funk. I sat down and wrote two short sentences. Then my brain wanted to turn off again. I don’t know why I’m struggling so much with writing these days, but I’m going to work on getting past this problem.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I don’t know if I will make much progress on my writing. I have errands to run. After that, I don’t know how much energy I will have to dedicate to writing. I know things aren’t going to be easy and I can’t get something out of a few minutes of effort. Getting past this mental block is going to take a lot of concentration and effort.

June 4

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 212,576
  • Today’s word count: 36
  • Thoughts: I almost didn’t write again today. I don’t know why I’m having such a hard time getting started. Maybe I’m just easily distracted. Maybe I’ve just taken on too much lately. It doesn’t feel like I’m doing too much but I’ve tricked myself into overdoing it before.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: A heatwave is supposed to start tomorrow. I hope I don’t end up making myself feel sick by doing too much in the heat. It might be smarter to just turn on the AC and hide in the rooms we keep cool, but that will prevent me from doing so many other things that need to be done.

June 5

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 212,596
  • Today’s word count: 20
  • Thoughts: The heat really sapped my energy and creativity. I didn’t write much or play any games at all today. I pretty much just stayed as still as possible and tried not to make myself any warmer.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: The heat isn’t going to go anywhere for the next few days, but I think I have a plan for being slightly less drained tomorrow. The air conditioner has been running for close to a day at this point. By tomorrow there should be a couple rooms in the apartment that will be a tolerable temperature. I’ll hide there and hope for the best.

June 6

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 212,895
  • Today’s word count: 299
  • Thoughts: Hiding from the heatwave actually helped me to write more. It’s easier to stay focused when I’m actively avoiding going into hotter parts of the apartment. I thought I’d have trouble getting things done, but I got a lot of my computer oriented tasks out of the way. Other chores might have been neglected, but I wasn’t sitting around doing nothing.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: The heatwave is going to continue so I’m planning to hide in the of the air conditioned rooms again. Hopefully that will result in lots more words written. I’m also hoping the chores I’ve been putting off won’t be too much of a problem once the weather cools off a bit again.
