Writing Progress November 15–21, 2021

November 15

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 20,228
  • Today’s word count: 964
  • Thoughts: There were times today I thought I would completely have to write the day off. I had to deal with a migraine all day. It got really bad for a while. Then it wasn’t so bad. I just couldn’t think. Then as the evening progressed I started to get into a writing groove. It just wasn’t enough to get the whole day’s worth of writing done before midnight.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully I’ll feel better and I can get all my writing done. I have a lot of catching up to do. I’d like to do it sooner rather than later. Doing it at the end of the month always stresses me out.

November 16

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 22,467
  • Today’s word count: 2,239
  • Thoughts: I felt more like myself today and decided to really push it to start playing the catch up game again. I was motivated and I think it shows in my word count for the day. I don’t think all the words I wrote were brilliant, but the story has moved forward a lot and that’s about the best I can ask for in a first draft.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully it’s not too much to ask for more of the same. I want to stay motivated and I want to avoid getting another migraine. I guess for that to happen I need to write a lot while also taking really, really good care of myself.

November 17

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 22,988
  • Today’s word count: 521
  • Thoughts: This just wasn’t my day. I couldn’t concentrate. When I sat down with a decent chunk of time to write I actually ended up feeling really bad physically. Somehow that led to a lot of doubt about the story and my abilities as a writer. It just wasn’t a good time.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I’m hoping for a total reset through sleep. I want to get back on track, of course, but right now I think my top priority is just feeling better. I know I won’t be able to write enough if I don’t feel well enough to put in the work.

November 18

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 24,645
  • Today’s word count: 1,657
  • Thoughts: I was motivated today but I was held back just a bit by a sore wrist (thumb? index finger?) and I wasn’t sure exactly how to work around that to get a decent amount of work done. I wanted to write more, but this was about my limit today. I’m glad I got to where I did, but I do wish it could have been a better day.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I have errands to run in the morning. After that I should be home all day and have plenty of quiet time to just focus on getting words done. I hope I’ll be able to use the time efficiently. Maybe a night’s rest will help my wrist/hand feel better and I’ll be able to write as fast and long as I like.

November 19

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 26,808
  • Today’s word count: 2,163
  • Thoughts: I had two really solid productive writing sessions today. I’m learning my most productive stretches of writing these days produce about 800 words. I wrote about 800 words in each of my really productive writing sessions today and I wrote bits and pieces between. Overall it was a really good day for writing.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I hope I can have another really good writing day. I have a lot of catching up to do.

November 20

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 27,064
  • Today’s word count: 256
  • Thoughts: I had a very busy Saturday again. I wrote a bit in Scrivener before things got really busy. Then I wrote a bit more on my phone. There was a lot going on so I didn’t write too much. I’m just glad I wrote something.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I’m going to stay home all day. It’s going to be lovely and quiet. I’ll have plenty of time to write and I’m going to do my best to use the time wisely.

November 21

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 28,015
  • Today’s word count: 951
  • Thoughts: I had really high hopes for today. My thumb had other plans. The desire to write was there but the thumb I’d sprained back over the summer got reinjured somehow. I’ve been thinking about it all day and I still have no idea what I did but I know it hurts and I’m doing my best to rest it.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully this won’t be another sprain injury that will take weeks to fully heal. I’m pretty useless without the thumb on my dominant hand and I’d really like to be able to keep writing.
