- Thoughts: Today still wasn’t a great writing day but it was a good one. I have a lot of catching up to do. I’m just glad I’m not as far behind this year as I am most years. The key right now is not to fall further behind.
- Tomorrow’s goal: I’m hoping for a good day of writing. There shouldn’t be too many distractions, but I’m not going to pretend nothing could go wrong. I’ll try to write as much as possibly early in the day to head off trouble.

- Project: Inbetween (novel version)
- Total word count: 31,026
- Today’s word count: 1,754
- Thoughts: It took me a while to get started today, but once I did I was able to write a decent amount. The only thing holding me back was my poor thumb. Yesterday it didn’t really bother me at all but today it was a problem again.
- Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully sleep will help my hand heal. It is a lot easier to write when both my hands are working properly. There is still a lot of writing left to do this month.
November 24
- Project: Inbetween (novel version)
- Total word count: 32,223
- Today’s word count: 1,197
- Thoughts: Today was a very middle of the road day. It could have been better and it could have been worse. My biggest regret is not managing to get into a writing groove earlier. It’s hard for me to settle in and get into what I’m writing early in the day. I don’t entirely understand why. I try to accept it for what it is and work around it by staying up later and giving myself that time at the end of the day to write. Sometimes it backfires though and I’m too tired to get the writing done even if I have the ideas ready to go.
- Tomorrow’s goal: I really don’t know what to expect. The earlier part of the day should be quiet at home, but in the evening I’m going to dinner at my mom’s house. It’s not going to be a big event, but I’ll still be busy and distracted. I might have a chance to write on my phone, but there’s also a good chance my nephew will demand to participate in anything and everything I’m doing and writing will be impossible.
November 25
- Project: Inbetween (novel version)
- Total word count: 32,445
- Today’s word count: 222
- Thoughts: I didn’t know what to expect and I can’t say I’m surprised by the end result. I took my wireless keyboard along to my mom’s house and tried to write on my phone. I managed to write a little but I’ll admit most of my typing yesterday was done for the sake of entertaining my nephew. He was fascinated by the keys lighting up as I typed.
- Tomorrow’s goal: There’s one stop on my Black Friday shopping list, a local game store, and then I should be home for a quiet day of writing. I just need to let myself have the day to actually write and everything should be great.
November 26
- Project: Inbetween (novel version)
- Total word count: 34,606
- Today’s word count: 2,161
- Thoughts: Getting started was the biggest struggle today. Fortunately, I had plenty of time to try. It took a few times but eventually I got there and the words just happened. It’s always fun once the words stop feeling like work.
- Tomorrow’s goal: I have things to do again in the morning but once I’m home for the day, I should be home all day. Hopefully I can get another good day of writing out of it.
November 27
- Project: Inbetween (novel version)
- Total word count: 37,031
- Today’s word count: 2,425
- Thoughts: I’m feeling good about my progress lately. I have a lot of writing left to do but now I have some momentum again and I think I can do it. I’m not running out of ideas. I don’t think I could with this story. There’s nearly a novel length stack of notes from the serial version so I have a pretty decent roadmap.
- Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully I will be able to manage even more writing than today. I’ll need to write more if I want to finish the month with 50k and I’d rather not do it all on the 30th. My hands might go on strike.
November 28
- Project: Inbetween (novel version)
- Total word count: 40,372
- Today’s word count: 3,341
- Thoughts: Today was a really productive day. It would have been better (and less stressful in the next few days) if I had managed to write more, but I think I’ve managed to give myself a fighting chance of winning. There are still two days left to write and I’ve written more in a single day than I have left to reach the goal in two.
- Tomorrow’s goal: If I could manage a 5k day I’d be over the moon. I’m not holding my breath for it. Usually the only thing that pushes me to write that much in one day is the clock ticking toward midnight on the final day of the month. Maybe I’ve become more disciplined since my last win, but I’m trying to keep my expectations reasonable.
