Writing Progress December 6–12, 2021

December 6

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 50,114
  • Today’s word count: 67
  • Thoughts: I started writing again today. I wanted it to be a glorious return similar to the sort of word counts I was getting during NaNoWriMo, but it seems my writing muscles are still sore. I also got distracted by a new fanfic that isn’t actually all that new considering how much there is of it. I only read about 70,000 words or so but it did eat up almost all of my writing time for the day. Oops.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I need to balance reading and writing better. Also, I should try to read more of the books I’ve already started instead of jumping into another fanfiction (although I will probably finish reading this one).

December 7

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 50,231
  • Today’s word count: 117
  • Thoughts: Today was similar to yesterday. I wanted to write and was very easily distracted. The good news is I’ve read all of that fanfiction published so far so I can’t be distracted by it anymore (for now).
  • Tomorrow’s goal: No more fanfiction and a lot more writing. I’m going to try to focus. I know there’s a lot more fun to be had with this draft. I just need to find it again. The problem with taking a break is forgetting all the little fun and insignificant tidbits I had planned for the upcoming scenes. I’ll find them again or come up with something even better. It just might take some time.

December 8

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 50,366
  • Today’s word count: 135
  • Thoughts: I’m writing a bit more each day. I feel like I actually made some progress today. The story is moving forward and I think I can keep it moving forward from here.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully even more writing will happen than today. I’m still having fun with this story so I’d love to get the ball rolling again.

December 9

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 50,404
  • Today’s word count: 38
  • Thoughts: Today just wasn’t meant to be a good writing day. I had absolutely no focus. No matter what I did, my thoughts were scattered all over the place. I felt like I was running around trying to gather up stray thoughts all day and once I got a couple scooped up, I lost one or two going after the next one.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully I will be able to write. We’re not going anywhere even though it would normally be our errand day. I’m going to focus on relaxing and let the writing that is going to happen happen. Hopefully I will be able to get something done.

December 10

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 50,416
  • Today’s word count: 12
  • Thoughts: This wasn’t an ordinary Friday but it had ordinary results. There’s just something about Fridays that really sucks away my creative energy. Maybe there’s just too much going on with people around me for me to ignore it and work on the stuff going on only inside my head.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: My birthday! I’m going to write, of course. I also have the very final bit of draft 3 of The Dreams going up over on Patreon tomorrow night. I’m excited and nervous about that. Once it is up, I feel like I will need to buckle down and tackle the prospect of shaping that story into something I want to publish. Scary!

December 11 & 12

No writing progress.

My boyfriend is sick. He got tested for Covid and we’re waiting on the results. Not the best birthday weekend.
