Writing Progress December 20–26, 2021

December 20

No writing progress

I was feeling better but not well enough to write today. I napped instead.

December 21

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 50,433
  • Today’s word count: 17
  • Thoughts: I managed to write a bit! It’s not much, but after so many days of not writing at all and only writing a very small amount before then, I’m thrilled with what I managed to accomplish. I’m writing again!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I’d like to write more. It shouldn’t be too hard to write more than today, but I’m not going to pretend I’m confident I will be able to do it. In addition to still recovering from being sick, I’m not on a roll with writing so I’ll have to find the momentum from somewhere else.

December 22

No writing progress

Still not back to 100% and just trying to conserve energy for the weekend.

December 23

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 50,465
  • Today’s word count: 32
  • Thoughts: I intended to write more than this, but when I sat down this was all that came out. I admittedly got a bit distracted by other things on my computer, but mostly I just don’t have enough steam to build up some decent writing momentum at the moment.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I don’t know what to expect. I have to go to the store. We’re very much running out of proper food and I don’t want to think what I’ll resort to cooking if we don’t restock some of the basics. Who knows how much energy I will have left after braving store lines on Christmas Eve (even if it is just a grocery run).

I was exhausted by dealing with people. The lines were long but the cashiers were superheroes and kept things moving quickly. They’re always super efficient at that store, but they went above and beyond today. It’s one of the good stores that gives cashiers a seat while they’re working so I think that lets them conserve energy for even speedier scanning.

After the ordeal of restocking our entire kitchen, I was done. I watched some holiday movies and wrapped presents and once that was done so was I.

December 25

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 50.466
  • Today’s word count: 1
  • Thoughts: I wrote a word! It seems ridiculous but it was Christmas. I was easily distracted and gave up pretty quickly. There were so many other things to see and do.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Tomorrow should be a quiet day at home. I’m hoping I won’t be too tired to make good use of the time, but I know that my stamina isn’t back to where it used to be and it never was all that great to start so I might need a day to recuperate.

December 26

  • Project: Inbetween (novel version)
  • Total word count: 50,469
  • Today’s word count: 3
  • Thoughts: I’m trying and failing to write every day. Well, maybe failing is the wrong word. I’m showing up. At least a word or three are being added. I’m just not in a headspace to actually put down a ton of new words. It’s like my head is empty. I’m content to sit and zone out while watching movies. I think I’m just tired and I’m not going to push myself to write a little bit more that will almost certainly be terrible.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Maybe I’ll feel better. Maybe I’ll manage to write instead of zone out. I’m trying to keep my expectations for myself low.
