Writing Progress July 18–24, 2022

July 18

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,197
  • Today’s word count: 22
  • Thoughts: The heat and humidity just sapped all my energy. It wasn’t just my creative energy either. I had no energy for anything at all. By the time I got to chill out in the air conditioning, I was already falling asleep.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: It’s going to be hotter and just as humid. This week is looking awful and I know it is even worse temperature-wise in other parts of the world. Hopefully I will find a way to keep cool and write at the same time.

July 19

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,197
  • Today’s word count: 77
  • Thoughts: I’m impressed I wrote as much as I did. It was so hot and humid and I had to go outside. I might have been falling asleep at my keyboard because the heat sapped all my energy. Who knows how much I might have written if I’d managed to stay awake an hour longer!
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Somehow it is supposed to be worse tomorrow. Fortunately, I don’t have to go outside. Unfortunately, inside isn’t all that much better. At least I don’t have to worry about sunburn? Hopefully I’ll find a cool corner and get some work done.

July 20

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,457
  • Today’s word count: 183
  • Thoughts: My writing time went well today. I’m honestly surprised. I was fully prepared for today to be a disaster and in some ways it was. The heat was unbearable. I hid in the basement. It helped some. Then I couldn’t sleep so I tried to write. It was a moderate success but I could feel my tired, frazzled brain slowing me down.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: It’s going to be another hot day. I think I’ll be hiding in the basement again since it was okay yesterday. Hopefully I will have a good writing day despite the weather.

July 21

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,469
  • Today’s word count: 12
  • Thoughts: It was another hot day. It drained my energy. Then we kept having power issues which interrupted the one chance I had to be relatively cool and focus on writing. Obviously that plan didn’t work out.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: There’s no hope of things being cooler. I just hope I’m able to find a way to feel okay enough to write.

July 22

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,545
  • Today’s word count: 76
  • Thoughts: Well, I managed to write something. That’s about the best I could hope for. I still had to run errands today. It was only getting hotter and hotter so I just hid away from the sun and hoped I wouldn’t end up feeling sick. Somewhere in there I felt okay enough to write a bit.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Believe it or not, it is going to be even hotter. I’m hoping I can find a place to keep cool and just hold out for sunset.

July 23

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,556
  • Today’s word count: 11
  • Thoughts: Too hot to think. Too hot to write. All I wanted to do was find a way to cool off but somehow I ended up hanging out at the park with my best friend while her niece and nephew played at the splash pad. I was still hot, but I was hot somewhere other than home.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Somehow it is going to be even hotter. I don’t know how I’m going to anything done, but I suppose I have to try.

July 24

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,573
  • Today’s word count: 17
  • Thoughts: It was even hotter today. It was also an even busier day. I ended up cooking a lot with my mom. We have a lot of food in the fridge now… just in time for things to cool off back to normal summertime temperatures tomorrow. I tried to write but even just a couple hours of living in this heat sapped me of all energy and creativity.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I need to take advantage of temperatures that aren’t absolutely insane and get some real writing done again. Hopefully I will get a good night’s sleep to recuperate and be ready to go.
