Writing Progress August 1–7, 2022

August 1

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,753
  • Today’s word count: 21
  • Thoughts: It wasn’t a strong start to the week or the month, but it was all I could muster. I had a bad case of the Mondays and I had family obligations that kept me away from the keyboard for most the evening. I tried to write when I got a chance after things quieted down, but I haven’t had the energy to stay up as late most days.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I should have a pretty peaceful day. We’ll just have to see if the rest of the universe will let me have it. I should really start fighting for me peaceful days of writing but I feel guilty because we’re mostly settled into the house but more often than not there’s some minor hiccup in the smooth sailing that needs to be corrected. When that happens, it can take anywhere from 5 minutes to all day to get back on track because I’ve never solves the problem in this house before. Eventually I’ll know what I’m doing and these problems won’t be such big distractions.

August 2

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,809
  • Today’s word count: 56
  • Thoughts: I wrote. That feels like a victory to me. I’m just going to keep showing up to write and hope I will get back to writing more than just a handful of words.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: It’s going to be hot and I have obligations that won’t allow me to be near my computer for a while. Hopefully I will have energy left to write when the sun goes down and things cool off again.

August 3

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,872
  • Today’s word count: 63
  • Thoughts: For once things actually worked out almost exactly how I thought they would. I didn’t write during the day. I was too busy. Things didn’t cool off too much after the sun went down, but I was able to write before bed while running the air conditioner to get some relief from the heat that was trapped in the house and the rapidly increasing humidity. I had Demi and Kiva to cuddle with and keep me company and I did write a bit before I fell asleep in front of my laptop.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: It’s only going to get hotter. My primary goal is to keep cool. My second goal is to keep calm. My mom’s 15 year old cat, Tuck, is having surgery tomorrow. We’re all going to be worrying. Writing will be my third goal. Fortunately, my first and second goal for the day will help me write.

August 4

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,908
  • Today’s word count: 36
  • Thoughts: Today wasn’t a bad day or a good day for writing. Tuck is doing well after surgery but I have been thinking more about him than writing anything all day.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I’ll still be worrying about Tuck and running errands all morning. We’ll see if I get anything done. I’ll try, but I’m going to keep my expectations low.

August 5 & 6

No writing progress

It’s been hot. I’ve been helping to give medicine to a cat a couple times a day. One of those is a lot for my creative side to handle. Both is a disaster. I’m just trying to survive until things settle down and my brain isn’t bouncing from one worry to the next.

August 7

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 5,936
  • Today’s word count: 28
  • Thoughts: I wrote! It felt good to get back at writing, but the heat is continuing to sap my energy so I’m not able to stay up and write into the night like I prefer to do. Trying to get writing done earlier in the day rarely works for me. The stars have to align for me to get into “the zone” during the day.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Somehow it is going to get even hotter. I’m just going to try to survive the day and hope that I can stay awake and be productive once I’m able to cool off. The weather forecast seems to think things will cool down somewhat next weekend and I can’t wait.
