Writing Progress September 19–25, 2022

September 19

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 7,418
  • Today’s word count: 61
  • Thoughts: I wrote. I was also surprisingly busy for parts of the day. My writing probably would have gone even better if I hadn’t worn myself out before I got around to writing. Basically, I need to plan better.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing, of course. I shouldn’t have too many obligations distracting me, but we will see what the day actually brings.

September 20

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 7,431
  • Today’s word count: 13
  • Thoughts: I spent a ton of time outside walking around today. The weather has been great and I feel like I need to take advantage of it while I have it. It’s letting brainstorm a ton, but it is cutting into the time I might use to write and I’m not staying up as late to write after walking up and down 6-ish miles of hills. Hopefully this will translate into easier writing when the weather becomes less than ideal.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: If the weather holds I’m going to take another long walk. I’m also going to do my best to write after my walk. My motivation is growing by the step. I just need to be careful with the time and energy sides of the equation and things should work out great.

September 21

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 7,483
  • Today’s word count: 52
  • Thoughts: I wrote! Yay! My neck and shoulders have been giving me problems. I’m hoping that doesn’t mean I have a migraine in the near future, but only time will tell.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: It’s supposed to rain. I’m hoping it won’t rain all day as I’d like to take another brainstorming walk, but the idea of having a cool and rainy day to write is pretty appealing.

September 22

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 7,541
  • Today’s word count: 58
  • Thoughts: Today was a very medium day. I felt moderately capable of writing. It seems like I managed a moderate amount of writing.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully I will be able able to write after running errands. I’m still in a “walk around and think about stuff” mode. I really hope it pays off in the end. I can’t imagine how it wouldn’t. Having ideas is always good for writing. Then again, so is sitting down and actually writing.

September 23

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 7,545
  • Today’s word count: 4
  • Thoughts: Errands ended up being a bigger distraction than I expected. I just couldn’t settle in and get the work done. It happens sometimes. I’m not thrilled about it, but I’ll just try to have a better day tomorrow.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: As long as I have a quiet day I think things will work out okay. Trying to do too much or just getting distracted by the small stuff will stop me from writing. I know it. I just need to avoid it and then I’m sure I’ll be able to write a decent amount.

No writing progress

I knew we were going to tie dye today. I should’ve expected it would turn into a whole party. I knew better. I just allowed myself to blissfully ignore the possibility of hanging out and playing games after the tie dying was done. And that’s exactly what happened. After tie dye, we came inside and Smash Bros was started up. Pizza was ordered. A great time was had.

I have no regrets.

September 25

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 7,587
  • Today’s word count: 42
  • Thoughts: I wrote! That’s more than I managed to do yesterday but I’m still feeling a little down about how little I’m writing. Getting started today was the hardest part. I had a migraine so actually feeling okay to sit down and be coherent was a struggle. By the time I managed to do it, I was pretty much ready to call it a night. I’m sure no one is surprised that having better health helps me write.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing, of course! The weather is supposed to be perfect early fall conditions so I’m planning to take another long brainstorming walk. I’m not entirely sure what I’ll brainstorm, but I know once I get walking brainstorming will happen.
