Writing Progress December 12–18, 2022

December 12

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 27,212
  • Today’s word count: 30
  • Thoughts: I was really productive when I first got up this morning, but it was all directed at cleaning. It did knock a few things off my to-do list for the next few days so it definitely wasn’t wasted effort. However, when it came to writing, I was in a bit of a rut. I just stared at what I’d already written and doubted myself way too much. It happens sometimes, but it never feels good.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully I will be able to write. There shouldn’t be too much standing in my way. The biggest obstacle will probably be my own attention span.

December 13

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 27,256
  • Today’s word count: 44
  • Thoughts: I couldn’t find the motivation to write for the longest time today. I didn’t want to do anything. Of course, right before I was planning to go to bed that changed. I managed to write a handful of words before I really needed to go to bed and couldn’t summon the energy to keep going.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully I will be able to write earlier. If I can manage that, I think I will have an okay enough day. If I can’t manage that, I’m going to be really discouraged.

December 14

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 27,337
  • Today’s word count: 81
  • Thoughts: I keep running into problems with getting started. I’m easily distracted these days. At this point I don’t even know what I need to get things to work. Cutting out distractions isn’t enough. Giving myself plenty of time to work isn’t doing the trick. What do I need?
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Time to try again. I know the one thing I can’t do while I’m struggling is give up. As long as I’m writing something, I’m making progress.

December 15

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 27,406
  • Today’s word count: 69
  • Thoughts: Today was a very medium day. Things weren’t all that bad or all that great. I did have an argument with my sister which did end up derailing my productivity for a couple hours after. Maybe I could have written more if I wasn’t upset for couple hours and lost that time.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Errands, chores, and writing. That’s the plan. Let’s see how it goes.

December 16

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 27,439
  • Today’s word count: 33
  • Thoughts: I ran errands. I did chores. I wrote a bit. I might have managed to write a bit more if I hadn’t ended up with a sore back. I don’t know if I slept wrong or if I overdid it with the chores, but it made it difficult to sit comfortably at my desk for a nice, long writing session.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: There’s more chores. There are always more chores. I’m hoping taking it easy and a good night’s sleep will help my back. Then I can tackle the chores and settle down to write a bit.

December 17

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 27,445
  • Today’s word count: 6
  • Thoughts: I wrote something. That was nice. I didn’t get much done, but I managed to avoid having my computer stay completely unusable all day. It just caused me to lose the entire morning’s productivity. Not great, but not the end of the world.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Family Christmas party! I don’t know if I’ll end up writing anything at all, if I do, it won’t be until nighttime.

December 18

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 27,470
  • Today’s word count: 25
  • Thoughts: I’m glad I wrote something. The Christmas party was great. Not everyone could make it. We had some people that weren’t feeling well so they stayed away, but we still had a great time together. I was just full of food and out of energy when we came home. Even so, I had to keep my nephew entertained in the evening. It wasn’t until after that was done that I even got a chance to think about writing. That’s why I’m glad I managed to write at all.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing, I hope. I’ll be on babysitting duty again, but I’m hoping to have the ability to settle down and focus on writing fairly quickly when my attention isn’t needed for toddler minding.
