Writing Progress April 17–23, 2023

April 17

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 32,422
  • Today’s word count: 322
  • Thoughts: I can’t believe how much I wrote! I’m pumped. I’d hoped for a decent writing day and I got it. For once, I can actually credit my nephew with helping my writing. Desperate for something novel to entertain him, I brought my blue tooth mechanical keyboard out and started writing on my phone. He loved it. I think it was the mix of typing sounds with the keyboard’s backlight dancing around as I typed that amused him. He kept demanding more so I tried to write more. That’s how I managed to write a ton in the morning for once.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully I will have another good writing day. I don’t think I’ll have my nephew demanding I write more to spur me on tomorrow. Honestly, I don’t think I could survive two days of being a writer-babysitter in a row anyway. Tomorrow is my day to decompress and I’ll just hope that decompressing also involves a lot of writing.

April 18

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 32,448
  • Today’s word count: 26
  • Thoughts: Nothing went to plan today. I was hoping to be reasonably productive and get a lot of things ticked off my to-do list. I woke up with a headache and nothing I did all day seemed to make much of a difference with it. Writing felt impossible. I still tried, but I didn’t get very far.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: Hopefully a good night’s sleep will make all the difference and I will be able to write enough to make up for today tomorrow.

April 19

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 32,493
  • Today’s word count: 45
  • Thoughts: Things could have been worse today. They could have been better too, but, overall, it wasn’t a terrible day. I wish I could have written more, but when I sat down to get the words out they just didn’t want to come out. The words I did write were all I managed to drag out all night.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I’m going to try to write earlier in the day. It usually doesn’t work for me, but I think I need to give myself more time to get the ball rolling. I want the words to come out and if they’re resisting, I need to find a way to work around that resistance. That will take extra time.

April 20

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word cunt: 32,548
  • Today’s word count: 55
  • Thoughts: I wrote. I’ll just focus on the success aspect of it rather than the small number of words I actually wrote.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: I have errands to run and a “date” with my boyfriend to tag team yard work in the evening. Hopefully I’ll find some time to write.

April 21 & 22

No writing progress

I had two busy days and not as much energy as I would have liked. However, I have a new baby goldfish to show for my busy days. I’m pretty happy with the way this spring is going, even if it hasn’t been the most productive for my writing.

April 23

  • Project: The Dreams
  • Total word count: 32,584
  • Today’s word count: 36
  • Thoughts: I had some time to write today which felt really good. I’m just running into the same problem I always run into after no writing for a few days: it was hard to get back into the story. That should probably be a high priority problem for me to solve. If I could just figure out how to have a decently productive day after a break, I could actually give myself a weekend each week without worrying.
  • Tomorrow’s goal: More writing, of course. Unless something really unexpected happens, I should have a good chunk of time to dedicate to writing. Lately, it feels like a lot of really unexpected things keep happening.
