Happy Thanksgiving

giphy

This year hasn’t been easy. Thanksgiving isn’t going to be what we expect from Thanksgiving. I’ve been having a particularly tough time lately, but I’m going to do my best to focus on the positive today.

Today I have time to write. I haven’t had a proper chunk of time to write on Thanksgiving in decade. I’m going to do my best to use that time.

I hope everyone is staying safe and making the most of this day however they can.

Just Some Stats: Four Years of Serial Fiction

I posted the first chapter of my first serial, The Dreams, to this blog four years ago today. A lot has changed since then, but a lot has stayed the same.

Let’s look at some stats!

Since August 27, 2015, I have:

  • Posted 155 chapters
  • Completed one serial (The Dreams)
  • Started a second serial (Inbetween)
  • Written 568,214 words
  • Changed my blog’s design once
  • Bought my own domain name

It hasn’t always been easy or fun. There have been periods of major self-doubt. I almost quit a few times. Writing is hard and putting my work online where it can be a full time job to even attract a handful of views can be extremely discouraging. However, I think I made the right choice.

Writing this way works for me. It keeps me on track. I’ve always loved finding stories online and checking in to devour new updates. Now I get to contribute to internet’s library. Some days I check my viewer stats and see someone has read through 30+ chapters in a day. Those moments make me think I must be doing something right.

Where do I plan to go from here? I intend to keep writing! A complete rewrite of The Dreams is coming once I’ve completed it. A brand new serial is in the works too. I think this next year will be particularly exciting with a mix of familiar content and brand new ideas.

I want to keep improving. I’d love to hear from you. What’s working? What isn’t? Is there something you’d love to see more of from me?

Another Goal Unlocked!

giphy

I can’t believe I’m making another post like this so soon! For the second time this year we’ve unlocked a new goal on my Patreon.

What is a Patreon goal? It’s a milestone I set that can be reached collectively by my patrons as more people join and more money starts coming in.

I tried to come up with fun perks for my goals so there would be extra incentive to reach them.

Last month passed the first goal! That means my patrons are getting new chapters early now! It’s not always easy, but I’ve done my best to get new scenes and chapters ready early so my supporters on Patreon can see them a bit early. It’s not much, but I hope it conveys my appreciation for their support.

Now we’ve unlocked the second goal as well. Starting in March I’ll be streaming my writing once a month (more if I feel motivated or end up really enjoying it). I’m really nervous about putting myself and my writing out there for people to see live, but it’s something a few of my longtime supporters have wanted for a while now. Admittedly a small, brave part of my is looking forward to doing it.

At this point I’m wondering if we’ll unlocked the next goal in 2019 as well. It’s a long way off, but we’re growing steadily this year.

The next goal is all about swag. I want to commission bookmarks and other bookish goodies themed around my serials. All my patrons will get one. Imagining a bookmark based on the gorgeous cover art for The Dreams has me beyond eager to reach this goal.

If you’d like to see bookmarks, more amazing cover art, and other bookish thing, now is the time to join my Patreon. Every pledge gets us closer to the unlocking the next goal.

So far, 2019 has been a fantastic year for my writing. I’d like to thank everyone whether you’re a patron, follow my blog, a lurker, or just someone dropping by to leave a like or comment. I appreciate every last one of you.

Patreon Goal: Unlocked!

thank you

A few days ago we unlocked a goal over on Patreon!

What is a Patreon goal? It’s a milestone I set that can be reached collectively by my patrons as more people join and more money starts coming in.

I tried to come up with fun perks for my goals so there would be extra incentive to reach them.

We recently passed the first goal! That means my patrons are getting new chapters early now! I’ve already posted the next chapter of Inbetween for them. It’ll be posted over here in a few days. I’m hoping posting chapters early on Patreon will have a snowball effect and soon I’ll have a ton of chapters prepared and posted there and we’ll have a more stable posting schedule here. It should be great for everyone.

In addition to surpassing the first goal this week, we’re only a few dollars away from unlocking the next goal as well. Once the next goal is reached I’m going to start doing a monthly writing livestream.

Some people (you know who you are) have wanted me to do writing streams for a while now. I’ll admit I’m a coward and I’ve avoided trying to set up a stream up until now. It’s something big and scary for me, but I know I can convince myself to try with the proper motivation. Livestreaming as an expression of appreciation and gratitude to the people who believe in and enjoy my writing would be the perfect reason to move outside my comfort zone and just do it.

It’s only January, but I already feel like 2019 is turning out to be a great year for establishing myself more as a writer. There’s a lot of going on behind the scenes and I’m looking forward to sharing more of it here with you when the time is right.

Welcome to my Blog: What to Expect

There’s been a steady trickle of new followers on this blog lately.

I just wanted to say hi! Thanks for deciding to check out my writing. I really appreciate it.

What Posts to Expect?

  • weekly progress reports
  • new chapters of my fantasy serials
  • monthly reading updates
  • NaNoWriMo related posts before and during WriMo events

What Else to Expect?

  • late chapters/a sudden change to my posting schedule
  • rambling in my progress reports
  • I will get excited and nervous every time I see a new comment notification on this blog always

If you just started following this blog in November, you should be warned that this month is a little different from business as usual. I’m working on a new draft of my first serial for NaNoWriMo (in hopes of eventually turning it into a proper book). To focus on getting as much done as possible with The Dreams this month I’ve put Inbetween on hiatus until December.

Be prepared for more posts next month!

Character Q&A #5

These questions and answers were originally posted on my Patreon. Head over there if you want the latest Q&A content.

If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be?

Rina: Well, about that… I sort of already know. I came back as a human, but I wonder if I’d be a kitsune again next or if that path is permanently closed to me now.

Willow: I’d like to come back as something like a cat so I could nap all day, but if I did I’d probably be stuck as a witch’s familiar or something and be put to work.

Ciel: I want to come back as a normal person, but I’ll probably get reincarnated as something with an insignificant, tedious life like an ant.

Character Q&A #4

These questions and answers were originally posted on my Patreon so head over there if you want more Q&A content.

Which living person do you most despise?

Souma: Takeshi. Without a doubt. He’s put Yuzu through hell and that’s without even considering what he’s done to the rest of his family.

Yuri: It’s hard to decide. Erramun is to blame for orchestrating Durya’s murder and trying to have me killed. He also tried to take over the city by marrying Nyura when he clearly didn’t love her. On the other hand, he’s not the one who actually killed my father. The assassin might have just been following orders, but they’re directly responsible for turning my whole life upside down.

Character Q&A #3

We’re continuing the character Q&A sessions today. These questions and answers were originally posted on my Patreon so head over there if you want more Q&A content.

Do you prefer to wear shoes or go barefoot?

Rina: I’ve had some bad luck with shoes so I prefer to be barefoot if it safe and socially acceptable. I guess that means I still wear shoes a lot, but I’d rather not.

Willow: If I’m not going to freeze or hurt my feet I’ll go barefoot.

Asa: I’d rather wear shoes. There are too many situations where my feet could get injured if left bare and I wouldn’t want to risk putting myself or anyone else in danger by being unprepared.

Character Q&A #2

Continuing the Q&A series, four characters have stepped forward to answer this question!

Do you think you’ve turned out the way your parents expected?

Yuri: I’m not there yet, but I’m working every day to live up to Durya’s expectations for me. I wish he was here because I know he would not make as many mistakes as I do.

Ciel: No.

Yuzuki: Thankfully, I’ve avoided turning out the way my parents expected.

Souma: I have no idea how my parents expected me to turn out, but I know that my mom hates that I look like my father.
